Sports & Music Equipment Luggage

Sports equipment fitting within cabin bag limits can be taken onboard Ryanair flights. Oversized items may require purchasing an extra seat, while large or potentially dangerous equipment must be checked in for a fee (20kg limit, 30kg for bikes). Bicycles need protective packaging; electric bikes are not allowed. Extra seat purchases do not increase baggage allowance.

You are permitted to carry any sports equipment with you onboard as long as it fits within your cabin bag allowance. For sports equipment that exceeds our cabin baggage dimensions and that fit safely in the seat, without obstructing other passengers, you can opt to pay an extra seat fare for it. To do this, you must purchase an extra flight ticket and seat. To book this extra seat, the word EXTRA must be entered as the first name, and ITEM SEAT must be entered as the surname.

Large sporting equipment (including large fishing rods, golf clubs, bikes, scooters, fencing equipment, pole vaults, javelins, surfboards, bodyboards, snowboards, and skis) and sporting equipment that could be used as a weapon (such as baseball bats or martial arts equipment) are unsuitable for being carried in the cabin on our flights. However, for a fee, these items each weighing up to 20kg can be carried in the hold.

If your equipment does not fit in your Cabin Bag and you do not wish to purchase an extra seat, you can choose to check it in and pay the applicable fee. Prices for categories of sports equipment vary. See our Table of Fees.

If your sports equipment weighs over the 20kg allowance (bike is 30kg allowance), you will be charged at the applicable excess baggage rate per kilo. See our Table of Fees.

*Bicycles (max weight 30kg), - MUST be contained in a protective box or protective bike bag in order to be accepted for travel. Electric bicycles cannot be transported on Ryanair’s aircraft.

You can bring music equipment onboard if it fits within your cabin bag allowance. For larger items like guitars, you can purchase an extra seat (using "EXTRA" as the first name and "ITEM SEAT" as the surname). Checked-in equipment incurs fees, and items over 20kg are charged excess baggage rates.

For smaller music equipment like guitars or violins that exceed your cabin baggage dimensions, you can opt to pay an extra seat fare for it. To do this, you must purchase an extra flight ticket and seat. To book this extra seat, the word EXTRA must be entered as the first name, and ITEM SEAT must be entered as the surname.
