Does my policy only exclude my own pre-existing medical conditions?

No. Your policy excludes pre-existing medical conditions that are known to you, or that concern the health of you, your relatives, your travelling companions or anyone whose ill health would force you to cancel or cut short your trip.
A relative is defined as "brother, brother-in-law, common-law partner, daughter, daughter-in-law, fiancé(e), grandchild, legal guardian, parent, parent-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, son, son-in-law, or spouse who live in your country of residence".

Is it possible to upgrade the policy to include a pre-existing medical condition?

No, unfortunately we are unable to add additional cover for pre-existing medical conditions.

When does my insurance cover begin and end?

Your insurance policy offers you insurance protection in line with your flight timings. The policy will take effect and you will be covered against cancellation costs from the moment you purchase your flight and policy.
The remaining cover will come in to effect from the time you leave your home and commence your trip until your trip ends and you return back to your home.
If you have a one way flight your insurance policy will cover you for up to 8 days.
If you have purchased an annual multi-trip insurance policy, the policy will take effect from the moment you purchase your flight and policy for a period of one year. Your multi-trip insurance policy offers you insurance protection in line with your Ryanair flight timings taken during that year of cover.
