Check-In & Travel Documents
Check-In
You can check in on the Ryanair.com website or on the mobile App. Once you are logged in, select check-in and enter your travel document details. For your safety and security, and for the safety and security of your fellow passengers and our crew, the check-in process must be completed by you personally, by a passenger on your booking, or by an individual with personal knowledge of you and of the contents of your luggage. This requirement is to ensure you are on notice of, and that you, a passenger on your booking, or an individual with personal knowledge of you and of the contents of your luggage have confirmed compliance with required safety, security and public health protocols, including those set out by the ICAO Technical Instructions, Regulation (EU) 2015/1998, and the EASA/ECDC Covid-19 Aviation Health Safety Protocol.
If you have pre-reserved a seat, you can check in online up to 60 days before scheduled departure. However, your outbound and return flights must be within those 60 days of departure. If you have not reserved a seat and this is being assigned to you randomly, check-in opens 24 hours before your flight and closes 2 hours before.
Yes. You can check in for your flight at the airport, but you will have to pay an airport check-in fee per passenger to cover the extra cost of the airport check-in service. Please see our Table of Fees.
If you checked in but cannot present your boarding pass on the App or in a printed-out paper format when arriving at the airport, you will have to pay a boarding pass reissue fee per passenger at the airport ticket desk. See our Table of Fees.
Please note: All passengers flying from a Moroccan airport to any destination or from Tirana to the UK must carry a physical print out of their boarding pass, as a digital boarding pass will not be accepted.
If you do not check in online up to 2 hours before your scheduled departure time, you may check in at the airport up to 40 minutes before departure, but you will be charged an airport check-in fee. See our Table of Fees. We urge all passengers to check in online before arriving at the airport so these fees can be avoided.
In order to check-in, you need a valid travel document. When travelling with Ryanair, we generally accept 2 forms of ID.
- A valid passport;
- A valid National Identity Card.
We do not accept a driver's license or birth cert for travel to any location. It is each passenger’s responsibility to carry Photo ID which meets our requirements and the requirements of the relevant Immigration Authority.
There are different rules for different destinations, so please check these before you travel. You can confirm what’s needed by clicking here.
Boarding Pass
You can access your boarding pass via ‘My Bookings’ on the Ryanair.com website or the Ryanair App.
If you depart from a Moroccan airport or are flying from Tirana to the UK, a digital boarding pass will not be accepted, you must carry a physical print out of your boarding pass as a digital boarding pass will not be accepted.
If you have checked in online and forgot your boarding pass, you can access it at any time in the Ryanair app. If you are at the airport and do not have the Ryanair App or cannot access it, we can print one for you at the check-in desk, but you will be charged a boarding card reissue fee. See our Table of Fees.
You can access your boarding pass on the Ryanair App once you have checked in. You do not need to print your boarding pass once you have access to the Ryanair App unless you are departing from a Moroccan airport or are flying from Tirana to the UK.
If you do not have access to a printer, we can print it for you at the check-in desk, but you will be charged a boarding card reissue fee for each passenger. See our Table of Fees.
We accept mobile boarding passes on flights from the majority of airports on our network.
However unfortunately some airports cannot accept mobile boarding passes yet, these airports are:
- Turkey (except Dalaman airport)
- Morocco
Also the following airport does not accept mobile boarding passes:
- Tirana (when travelling to the UK only)
*Customers traveling from these airports must check in online and print out a paper boarding pass for their flight(s).
Check-In When Booking Made Through a Third Party
If you have been asked to verify your identity, it is because your booking has been flagged as having been made by a third-party travel agent that has no commercial agreement with Ryanair to sell our flights. For more information, please refer to the Travel Agent Bookings page.

To streamline your travel experience and maintain a record of the necessary visa documentation, we are introducing an optional feature to upload the required visa documentation during the check-in process via our app. This will demonstrate that you carried the correct documents at the time of departure, to avoid fines or criminal penalties for travelling without the required documents. For further information see our FAQ.
However, if this option is not available for your flight, you must have your travel documents checked at the Ryanair check-in desk.
All personal data uploaded by you and others on your booking will be processed in accordance with the Ryanair Privacy Policy. Visa documents will be available in your account for 24 hours and will be saved by Ryanair for 18 months.
Depending on your nationality and flight destination, a visa may be required to travel.
All non-EU/EEA citizens must have their travel documents checked and stamped at the Ryanair Visa/Document check desk before going through airport security. Your boarding pass will display the information for routes that require mandatory Visa/Document checks.
Non-EU/EEA citizens must do this to ensure compliance with immigration authority rules. We reserve the right to refuse travel if there is any failure to comply with this requirement.

Yes. We advise all passengers to allow more time for visa checks at the airport. The check-in and Visa/Document Check desks are open at least 2 hours before your departure time and close strictly 40 minutes prior to the scheduled time of departure. If you have not had your visa check done before this deadline, you will not be allowed to travel, and you will not be entitled to a refund of the missed flight.
All visa checks must be done before you travel through airport security. You should check your departure time and ensure you have planned to allow sufficient for all these visa checks.
Each country has specific requirements for minors travelling without their parents or legal guardians and what documentation is required. It is each passenger’s responsibility to ensure that these specific document requirements are fully met.
You can find what documents are needed for minors travelling within the EU here. You can also confirm visa and passport requirements by contacting the consulate or embassy of the country you’re planning to travel to.
If you have lost your passport, you will need a valid temporary passport issued by your country’s embassy or consulate to return home. Please contact your local embassy or consulate for more information.
At the airport, go to the Ryanair check-in desk, and if you have all the required documentation, we will issue you a boarding pass.
Travel Document Verification
All non-EU/EEA citizens are required to upload their visa documentation via the myRyanair app. Uploading is mandatory.
Passengers whose visa documentation is successfully verified through the app will receive a valid boarding pass and will not need to have them checked at the airport. This requirement ensures a verifiable record of visa documentation is maintained to:
- Demonstrate compliance with immigration and border control requirements.
- Prevents us from incurring fines, penalties, or criminal enforcement actions for transporting passengers without valid travel documents.
Currently supported travel documentation:
- A valid Visa (ICAO 9309 Compliant)
- A valid Residents Permit.
- A passport.
It is each passenger’s responsibility to ensure they carry travel documents that meet the requirements of immigration authorities at their destination. To streamline compliance, Ryanair requires mandatory travel document verification during online check-in.
This ensures a record of the required visa documentation is maintained, necessary for potential challenges from immigration or border control at the destination. It will demonstrate that appropriate the documentation was presented at the point of departure, to prevent fines and penalties associated with transporting a passenger lacking the necessary documents, and to avoid criminal enforcement in case of failure to present the correct documents on arrival. Uploaded personal data will be processed in accordance with the Ryanair Privacy Policy by our trusted third party partner ICTS.
If you are a non-EU/EEA citizen, you may be required to complete one of two document checks before travel:
1. Visa Documentation Verification
All non-EU/EEA passengers must verify their visa or resident permit (Visa Documentation) during the check-in process via the myRyanair app. If verification cannot be completed online, you must visit the Ryanair check-in desk at the airport before proceeding through security. Failure to complete this verification will result in denied boarding. You can begin this process by checking in for your flight in the app.
2. Passport Verification
Citizens of certain countries may complete passport verification in the app during check-in, instead of Visa Documentation verification. This process is available only if your destination allows it. If you are from one of the countries listed below, and not flying to a restricted destination, you do not need to complete Visa Documentation verification:
- Andorra
- Antigua & Barbuda (not valid if flying to Morocco)
- Argentina
- Australia
- Bahamas (not valid if flying to Morocco)
- Barbados (not valid if flying to Morocco)
- Brazil
- Brunei
- Canada
- Chile (not valid if flying to Morocco)
- Colombia (visa-free to Schengen)
- Costa Rica (not valid if flying to Morocco)
- Dominica
- El Salvador
- Grenada
- Guatemala
- Holy See (Vatican City)
- Honduras
- Hong Kong SAR
- Israel
- Japan
- Kiribati
- Macao SAR
- Malaysia (not valid if flying to Israel or Serbia)
- Marshall Islands
- Mauritius (not valid if flying to Morocco or Ireland)
- Mexico (not valid if flying to Türkiye)
- Micronesia
- Monaco
- New Zealand
- Nicaragua (not valid if flying to Morocco)
- Palau
- Panama (not valid if flying to Morocco or Serbia)
- Paraguay (not valid if flying to Morocco)
- Peru
- Saint Kitts & Nevis
- Saint Lucia
- Saint Vincent
- Samoa
- Seychelles
- Singapore
- Solomon Islands
- South Korea
- Taiwan (not valid if flying to Morocco)
- Tonga
- Tuvalu
- Ukraine (visa-free to Schengen and Ireland)
- United Arab Emirates
- United States
- Uruguay (not valid if flying to Morocco)
- Vanuat
- Venezuela (visa-free to Schengen)
To use this service, ensure your passport is:
- Valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay for flights from Schengen to Non-Schengen regions.
- Valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay for flights to Schengen regions.
Please note that a passenger may be required to verify both their passport and Visa Documentation for the same booking if the necessary conditions are met. In that case, passengers will have to successfully verify both travel documents to get a valid boarding pass.
It is the responsibility of each traveller to ensure that they have proper visa documentation to travel to their destination. In the event of a failure to present valid visa documentation upon arrival at their destination, both the airline and the passenger could face legal claims or criminal enforcement by immigration , border control and local law enforcement authorities. Uploading your visa documentation to the Ryanair app will ensure a record of the necessary visa documentation presented at boarding. Should an unforeseen event occur prior to presenting to immigration at your destination country, the uploaded visa documentation can serve as a record that the passenger had the required documents at the time of departure.
If your journey requires Visa Documentation verification, you must upload it during online check-in by following these steps through your Ryanair app:
- Retrieve your booking by entering your booking reference.
- Tap “Check in” for your flight.
- Continue when prompted and select "Start Verification."
- Scan your passport when prompted.
- Scan your travel document following the on-screen instructions.
- Await a response.
If you cannot complete the online verification process after 3 attempts due to unsupported, invalid, or incorrectly scanned documents, you will be checked in, but will get a restricted boarding pass, and your Visa Documentation must be manually verified at the airport. If you do not verify your Visa Documentation online for reasons not related to Ryanair (e.g., you choose not to verify your documents online or do not attempt verification 3 times in case of error), you will not be checked in. In this case, you will need to check-in at the airport desk and pay the relevant airport check-in fee as set out in our Table of Fees.
You will receive an immediate response:
- DOCUMENT VERIFIED: Your travel document has been successfully verified.
- DOCUMENT REJECTED: Your travel document is either invalid for travel or currently unsupported.
- DOCUMENT SCAN ERROR: An issue occurred while processing the travel document.
Uploaded Visa documentation is retained by Ryanair for 18 months.
If your Visa Documentation is successfully verified in the app, your boarding pass will display “DOCUMENT VERIFIED.” This means you are checked in and will not need to visit the airport check-in desk.
If you are unable to verify your documents and receive a “DOCUMENT REJECTED” or “DOCUMENT SCAN ERROR” message (after you have tried to verify your documents at least 3 times)—due to unsupported, invalid, or incorrectly scanned documents — we will keep a record of the documents you submitted. You will be able to check-in at the airport free of charge in this case, but you must:
- Reattempt to verify your Visa Documentation as indicated in the app, or
- Present your original Visa Documentation at the airport check-in desk for manual verification.
Important: To complete online check-in and avoid any airport processing, your Visa Documentation must be successfully verified in the app before you arrive at the airport.
